Going on a Tree Hunt!

Christmas time is officially here and we went this last weekend to get our Christmas tree with our dear friends the Schells. This was not a typical tree hunting experience for us, as we bought a permit and went into the Pike National Forest and cut down our own tree. Much like the pioneers use to do, we trekked back into the woods and our mountain man, and girls, sawed it down! The weather was beautiful - some snow still on the ground, but the sun was shining. The tree we found was not as full or perfect as the ones from the Christmas tree farms, but it is lovely in its own "Charlie Brown" sort-of-way. It was fun to decorate it with the girls and know that we picked it right out of nature ourselves. Here are some highlights:

Heading out into the wild!

This is IT! (Now what?)

Ruby the lumberjack taking her turn with the saw.

Put the saw down and back away!

Ruby is still at it - help her out Dad!

The lovely Schell family looking for the perfect tree.

How is that tree going to fit on that car?!?!

Was that tree there a minute ago?

Heading home - which is bigger, the tree or the car?
