Hopkins Walk-a-thon/Jog-a-thon!

Millie in training (promotional materials from fundraising)

The first annual Mark Hopkins Jog-a-thon/Walk-a-thon was held May 2nd at our school. In the beginning, we were under the impression that Millie was the only one who would participate, but early in the week of the event, Ruby found out she could walk/run/hop too! Both the girls were very excited. We asked a few friends and family to help sponser Millie and the response was overwhelming! Thank you to each of you who donated! If you weren't asked, please don't feel slighted - it is difficult for me to ask for money! If you want to help out next year, let me know and I will add you to my list! Anyhoo...Millie's goal was 8 (1 mile) until Uncle John upped the ante to 10. Ruby had the goal of 5 laps (just a little over a 1/2 mile). We weren't sure what to expect from the girls. Ruby doesn't exactly love physical exercise. They both blew our expectations away - Millie did 20 laps and Ruby did 10 (without one complaint)! Millie was highly motivated by Uncle John's challenge and racing me at the end of every lap! We were very proud of both the girls and very appreciative of all the support we received. As it turned out, Millie was the highest fundraiser in the whole school and our family won a Wii entertainment system - talk about blown away! We weren't sure what to expect, but we had a blast playing it this weekend. The girls have taken right to it and have whooped me more than once in bowling. The girls also LOVE the boxing game - they have both knocked out several opponents. I am hoping to film that scene for all your enjoyment - it is hysterical! Thanks again for helping out our school!
