Things have been pretty crazy in preschool. Lots of exciting new things. First off, we have a Smart board now that I am in training for (the idea of training for the Smart board makes Matt roll his eyes every time). The kids and I are having a great time playing with it. We call it our "electronic flannel board". It truly is amazing what they can do with technology and how quickly those little boogers pick it up! Okay I am about to sound like my grandmas here, but back in my day they didn't have these newfangled machines. I don't think I knew what a computer was until I was in about 4th or 5th grade. Anyway...pretty cool stuff!
Second, I entered a writing contest by a great author, Daniel Kirk. He was giving away 25 signed copies of his book, Library Mouse, but you had to tell him why you should win. My tongue-in-cheek letter about starting a writing revolution (preschoolers are writers too) grabbed his attention and he offered us the runner-up prize: 10 of his books signed. My co-teacher and I decided that the second place prize was better than the first! Thanks Daniel Kirk!!! Here are some of my friends with the new books:
Last, over the summer I wrote and received funding through a Target Early Childhood Literacy grant to create backpacks full of stories and activities for preschoolers to do at home with their families. It was a LOT of work getting everything together, but the response has been fantastic. Since we started check-out in October the backpack shelves have been pretty empty. Most backpacks are in a continual state of check-out which makes my heart happy! I love to see the kids heading home with their backpacks strapped on, ready to be readers. Here is one of my little friends looking a little overwhelmed by the whole thing:
I am just so excited about the things that are happening that I couldn't help but share! Yeah for preschool!

I just love what you are doing, Libby. I love to see you do it with passion and excitement and serious excellence. And that kid's hair (with the backpack) is the bomb. Love you!
