6929 Oak Street Take Two!

Okay, for those of you who know us best 6929 Oak is a familiar address.  Matt and I purchased our first home close to a year after we were married.  In fact, we spent our first anniversary hanging drywall.  I was, admittedly, very naive about home ownership in general, and renovating in particular.  We spent 3 months demolishing and remodeling that first home, and continued with various projects, both big and small, over the next ten years.  There were many a tear over that project...but it worked out well in the end!

Upon our move to Colorado we decided that a move-in ready house was best and it was.  We have made improvements and changes, but for the most part we have not put the sweat, blood and tears into 550 Kettle as we did back at 6929 Oak.

Are we gluttons for punishment(?), super motivated to shape and create(?) or just plain crazy, because we just signed the papers on a little house in the mountains not far from Breckenridge.  Now, before your overactive imagination has us swishing into a ski-in/ski-out mountain villa with crackling fire already roaring...think again.  We have inherited five acres of forest desperately in need of a trim, a house that has sat empty (except for the mice and possibly the muskrat family that lives down the road) for three years and a rather long list of projects, tasks, and small miraculous feats that will be (fingers-crossed) completed within the next several years.  What it does have is a cabin,  which like our little bungalow on Oak Street, has a lot of potential; it's own spring-fed creek, a fantastic view, and a lot of great memories with friends and family in the making.  BUT let's be realistic - there will be blood, sweat and tears!  Matt and I are 14 years older than the last time we undertook this kind of project - it is harder to get up in the mornings, literally!  Just trying to buy this cabin, with all its ups and downs has caused us more stress than we are use to.  So, wish us luck and we will keep you up to date on all the tears of joy and frustration that come with remodeling!

View from the front - the trees will have to go!
Our spring-fed creek...the girls claim that gnomes are living there!

Are we ready for this?

Ruby! I totally agree...we already made some great ones walking around the property and demolishing the kitchen. You are pretty handy with that screw gun and sledgehammer! Love you little one!
